Welcome to MediaCenterLinux.org

Media Center Linux (MCLinux) is a project for the development and distribution of an open source set top box operating system and middleware.

The project is composed of two distinct Linux distributions. Both are based upon Debian Stable (etch). One is a complete development and test environment, whereas the second is a fullly operational test best for media center applications in an Linux-based embedded set top box environment.

Showcased technologies include OCAP and OSGi frameworks, OpenGL and uPnP.

Both releases combine some of the most innovative and advanced media management and rendering software plus home networking utilities available on Linux today. Bundled sofware includes accellerated composite X windows, ALSA, Avahi, HAL and Sun Java 6.

  • Developer includes a complete development environment based on Eclipse, Equinox and Apache Felix.
  • SetTop is a minimal Linux user-space environment with a full Java virtual machine, a mashup of the Equinox and Apache Felix OSGi frameworks, plus many core Java libraries including JOGL, JOAL, JInput, and JUtils.
